Ensure that the awning is not ever extended. If the awning is out during a light ran and the awning is over extended, water will collect between the tube and the fabric and seep though the valance rope stitching holes.

Keep in mind, even with a properly extended awning, water can leak though any of the stitching points. The stitching is not water proof.
